I'll take my 3 year old MacBook with an i5 and 8 gigs of RAM over the computer that came underspeced for its time from the factory. The old laptop has run everything from windows XP on up with a clean wipe each time.
I didn't say it wouldn't, however I do loathe that PC but haven't been able to justify recycling hardware that still works. Unless you can 'acquire' the programs for free that are needed for VCDS to run on your MBP, I'd wipe the 2006 and use it for VCDS only. VCDS isn't an advanced program in terms of computer specs. That 'POS' 2006 computer would probably work just fine.
